A Legacy Born in Glashütte

The Moritz Grossmann name traces back to the mid-19th century, when Carl Moritz Grossmann, born in 1826 in Dresden, helped establish Glashütte, Saxony, as the heart of German horology. Alongside his close friend Ferdinand Adolph Lange, Grossmann set in motion a culture of excellence that would shape the global reputation of Glashüttetimepieces. He was not only a master watchmaker but a scholar, inventor, and teacher—founding the German School of Watchmaking in 1878, an institution that trained generations of artisans and still inspires the industry today.
His passion for innovation led to the development of precision chronometers, lever escapements, and the famed Glashütte lathe, establishing the blueprint for fine German watchmaking. Though his original manufactory closed after his passing in 1885, his technical genius and commitment to craftsmanship remained an enduring influence across Europe.
A RENAISSANCE OF A MASTERPIECE
After more than 120 years, Moritz Grossmann was revived in 2008, rekindling the artistry and ideals that once defined its founder. The new Grossmann Manufacture in Glashütte continues to uphold the original philosophy—“manu factum”, meaning “made by hand.” Each timepiece is conceived, designed, and assembled by skilled artisans whose eyes and hands are their most precise instruments.
In the Moritz Grossmann ateliers, the blending of traditional handcrafting and modern precision forms the soul of each creation. Every stage—from hand-drawn sketches and prototyping to finishing and engraving—is performed meticulously in-house. The result is a harmony between technology and tradition: the heritage of the past translated into modern mechanical poetry.
THE PURSUIT OF PERFECTION
Every Grossmann watch is a statement of understated excellence. The journey for every Moritz Grossmann timepiece begins with a hand-drawn sketch — an homage to traditional artistry that balances heritage with innovation. Components are crafted to microscopic precision, then finished by hand using techniques nearly lost to time: beveled and polished edges, hand-engraved balance cocks, flame-blued screws, and the brand’s signature two-thirds plate adorned with Glashütte ribbing, and micrometer fine adjustment—hallmarks derived from 19th-century craftsmanship.
Each masterpiece endures a rigorous testing period of no less than 30 days, ensuring that it not only tells time—but lives it—flawlessly. Hence, every timepiece reflects the human touch — where the watchmaker’s eye, intuition, and discipline transform raw metal into a living mechanism of enduring beauty.
A Legacy of Integrity and Artistry
To own a Moritz Grossmann timepiece is to hold a piece of history — a continuation of a legacy built on innovation, intellect, and integrity. These watches are not simply instruments of time, but symbols of “Schönstes deutsches Handwerk”—Finest German craftsmanship—that transcend generations.
From the elegant Benu to the ingenious Hamatic and the contemporary Corner Stone, Moritz Grossmann continues to celebrate the art of horology with a steadfast devotion to precision, purity, and passion.
